about
Originally conceived by Matt, "Cobblestone" is one of the core Blue Spruce songs that define "The Poison in the Ice".
It describes the musings of an anxious partner in a relationship, overanalyzing and blowing small things out of proportion. And, whenever something in the relationship does go awry, it only serves to validate these fears in the narrator's head.
lyrics
Strolling through the night,
Remembering the "goodbye's" tone,
It's never not been alright,
You always look between the cobblestones.
Why do you fantasize the worst, with replay on?
Why do you never fail to fear that she'll be gone?
Stumble through the night,
Remembering the squabble's tone,
You can't say it's alright,
As you trip upon the cobblestones.
How did it escalate so fast, your voices raised?
Leaving the two of you aghast, neither appraised?
Can't you see the disgust in her gestures?
Can't you see that there's tears in her eyes?
Why do you always make pain from her pleasures?
An illness that always appears in disguise.
Stumble through the night ("goodbye's" tone)
Can't say it's alright (cobblestone)

It's never not been alright,
You always look between the cobblestones.
Why do you fantasize the worst, with replay on?
Why do you never fail to fear that she'll be gone?

Why do you always make pain from her pleasures?
An illness that always appears in disguise.
